Best Time to Call Paraguay

Paraguay used to run Southern Hemisphere daylight saving — summer clocks from October to March, the reverse of the US and UK. That changed in March 2025: Law 7354/2024 abolished the seasonal shift and fixed the country at UTC-3 permanently. The upshot for callers is that Paraguay's clock is now simpler than it used to be — it just never moves — but the gap to the US and UK still shifts, because those countries keep changing theirs.

Avoid the Semana Santa stretch around Holy Thursday and Good Friday (April 2–3, 2026), when many businesses slow down for an extended weekend.

The run from December 20 through early January overlaps Paraguay's Southern Hemisphere summer vacation season as well as Christmas and New Year — expect reduced staffing well beyond the official holiday dates themselves.

On these dates, most Paraguayan government offices and many businesses are closed. Authorities also sometimes decree additional "feriados puente" (bridge holidays) to extend long weekends, announced closer to the date.

May 15 marks both Independence Day and Mother's Day in Paraguay, and Independence celebrations often extend from May 14. Fundación de Asunción (August 15) is a significant capital-city commemoration but isn't a nationwide statutory holiday.

Spanish is the language of formal business calls; Guaraní is widely spoken and culturally significant — a Guaraní greeting is appreciated but not expected on a business call.

Business culture is relationship-first — expect rapport-building small talk before the agenda, and don't expect to close on a first call.
