+33 covers metropolitan France and only metropolitan France — Guadeloupe, Réunion, French Guiana and the rest carry their own codes. Sort the mainland from the territories here, with formats from the US, UK and EU, all five single-digit zones, the Orange/SFR/Bouygues/Free prefixes, live time and weather, and how MCM gets your business a +33 virtual number.

What is the country code for France?
France's country code is +33 — but read that as *metropolitan* France. Reach a Paris or Lyon line and +33 is right; reach Guadeloupe, Réunion or French Guiana and +33 will fail, because each overseas department has its own code. French numbers are written domestically as 10 digits with a leading 0 (e.g. 01 23 45 67 89); drop that 0 and swap in +33 from abroad.
Under ITU E.164, +33 covers only metropolitan France. The overseas territories sit outside it — Guadeloupe is +590, Réunion and Mayotte +262, French Guiana +594, French Polynesia +689.
Los cuatro significan lo mismo: conectan su llamada a France.
How to call France from anywhere
For the mainland the shape is simple: exit code + 33 + a single leading digit (1–5 for landlines, 6/7 for mobiles, the 0 dropped) + the remaining 8 digits. For an overseas department you'd use its own code instead of 33.
That lone digit after +33 is a whole region, not a city — and it only works for the metropole; a Réunion number runs through +262, never +33.
France phone number format explained
French numbers are 9 digits after the country code (10 domestically with the leading 0). What makes France unusual is that there are no city area codes at all — instead a single digit (01–05) after the 0 marks one of five vast geographic zones. Drop the 0 only when you prefix +33, and remember this whole scheme is the metropole's: the overseas departments number under their own codes.
Landline
0 + zone digit (1–5) + 8 digits → e.g. 04 91 23 45 67 (Marseille). International: +33 4 91 23 45 67.
Mobile
0 + 6 or 7 + 8 digits → e.g. 07 12 34 56 78. International: +33 7 12 34 56 78.

France mobile network prefixes
The prefix after +33 tells you which network issued the SIM — though number portability means it no longer guarantees the operator.
Orange
incumbent operator (formerly France Télécom), broadest coverage; budget brand Sosh.
SFR
second-largest, strong fixed + mobile bundles; budget brand RED.
Bouygues Telecom
major operator with growing fibre/5G; budget brand B&You.
Free Mobile (Iliad)
disruptor that reshaped pricing; aggressive low-cost plans.
France time zone
Metropolitan France runs on Central European Time (CET, UTC+01:00) in winter and shifts to Central European Summer Time (CEST, UTC+02:00) from late March to late October — so unlike many of its neighbours to the south, France does change its clocks twice a year.
The overseas departments keep their own, separate offsets entirely (Réunion is hours ahead of Paris, Guadeloupe several behind), so don't assume a French contact shares the mainland's time.
09:00–12:00 Paris time overlaps the rest of Europe; 15:00–17:00 reaches US East Coast mornings. Re-confirm the offset around the late-March and late-October clock changes — and if you're calling an overseas department, look up its zone separately rather than trusting Paris time.

Common mistakes when calling France
Casi todas las llamadas internacionales fallidas se deben a un problema de formato, no a un problema de red.
Dialing +33 for an overseas department
Guadeloupe (+590), Réunion/Mayotte (+262), French Guiana (+594) and French Polynesia (+689) are all "France" but none answer on +33; use the territory's own code.
Treating 01–05 as multi-digit city codes
they're single-digit codes for whole regions, not cities.
Keeping the leading 0 after +33 (dial +33 1…, not +33 01…)
Keeping the leading 0 after +33 (dial +33 1…, not +33 01…).
Forgetting France actually does observe DST
it moves to CEST (UTC+02:00) each summer, so re-check the offset.

Tips to reduce the cost of calling France
Carry calls over VoIP/SIP rather than paying carrier international rates.
Give customers a local +33 line to dial instead of a foreign number.
Aim for 09:00–12:00 Paris time for first-try answers
adjusting around the spring and autumn clock changes.
Buy on wholesale termination rates instead of retail mobile surcharges (and price overseas-department codes separately, since they aren't +33).

No — +33 is metropolitan France only. Guadeloupe is +590, Réunion and Mayotte +262, French Guiana +594 and French Polynesia +689, each with its own code.
Why is there only one digit after +33?expand_more
France has no per-city area codes; instead a single digit (1–5) marks one of five large regional zones, so Paris is 1 and the whole south-east is 4.

Lyon, Marseille and Nice all sit in the south-east 04 zone, while Paris is 01, the north-west 02, the north-east 03 and the south-west 05.
