What is the country code for Mexico?
Mexico answers to +52. The bigger story is what happened *behind* that code. The August 2019 dialing reform swept away a confusing tangle — gone are 01 for landlines, 044 for nearby mobiles and 045 for long-distance mobiles — and replaced the lot with a single 10-digit national number carrying no trunk prefix at all.
The headline change for anyone calling in: a Mexican mobile no longer wants that extra "1" tucked after the country code. Where you once punched +52 1 55…, you now simply dial +52 55…. That legacy "1" finished disappearing by August 2020, so any guide still showing it is out of date.
Code +52 was assigned to Mexico by the ITU under the E.164 plan. The “+” means “dial your local international exit code”; on a mobile, press and hold 0 to type it.

How to call Mexico from anywhere
The recipe is short now: exit code, then 52, then the 10-digit number — nothing in between. Resist the muscle memory to slip a "1" in front of the area code; the reform retired it, and adding it can break the call.
Full example: +52 55 XXXXXX — drop the local leading 0 when calling from abroad.

Read any Mexican number today and you'll count 10位數字, always — an area code (two digits for the giants, three for everyone else) followed by the subscriber line. One plan, no prefix, identical for a phone on a desk or in a pocket.

Also 10 digits, dialed identically to a landline. The retired 1 / 045 / 044 prefixes have no place here anymore. Example: **+52 55 1234 5678**. And because Mexico lets numbers port between carriers, the digits won't tell you which network you're reaching.

Set your watch to Mexico City and you're on Central Standard Time (CST, UTC-6) — the clock most of the country keeps. But Mexico is wide, stretching across UTC-5 to UTC-7, so a call to Cancún or Tijuana lands at a different hour than one to the capital. A 2022 law scrapped daylight saving for most of the country; only a handful of northern border towns still spring forward with the US.
