What are toll-free numbers?

A company can have a toll-free number that uses an easy-to-remember 3-digit code at the beginning of your telephone conversation with them. It means there are no additional charges for calling this particular line. If you want to avoid being charged for long-distance calls, know the 3-digit code. There are various 3-digit codes you use while using a toll-free number:

  • 833
  • 844
  • 855
  • 888
  • 800
  • 877
  • 866

Is toll-free numbers 100% free?

Calling a toll-free number is usually free if the person is calling from their country. However, calls get charged to that business’ hosting plan and are priced accordingly for those using landlines. However, when you make a call using your cellular phone and dialing toll-free numbers, it will use the minutes from any plan included with this service.

Every country has its self-dialing format for toll-free numbers. For example, 0800 numbers in Germany are followed by seven digits. So if you want to call Ireland toll-free number starts with 1800; the standard format is 0800-XXX-XXXX, followed by six digits. So Ireland’s toll-free number format is 1-800 XXXX. And in Romania, the traditional calling card looks like 0 800 XX XXXXX.

International Toll-Free Numbers

Toll-free and international numbers are compatible, but when you call internationally, it will convert your toll-free number to a regular landline. As a result, international charges will be charged for dialing an international call. Many businesses block international calls and provide a local contact for the consumer to call as there are high international calling rates.

A universal international freephone number (UIFN) is the closest thing to a global toll-free number, but it’s impossible for one country’s UIFNs dialed from other countries. So they have rules and regulations with the UFIN number:

1) It should be registered in at least two countries.

2) You must be sure that you will use the same one for two or more countries, 180 days from when you made your reservation with us!

If you want to be able to use your number in multiple countries, a UIFN is often the best choice. But, before signing any contracts, make sure to ask your provider about coverage and restrictions. Also, UIFN numbers can cost a lot of money- they come with an expensive setup fee!

UK Toll-Free Number

Tollfree numbers are unavailable in all areas, but this doesn’t mean you can’t get your fixes! For example, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are not a part of the UK’s national territory, yet they still use their country dialing codes.

China Toll-Free Number

The difference between China’s 800 toll-free numbers and their 400 landline-only counterparts is vast. Their difference lies in accessibility. The 800 toll-free numbers are only accessible to landline users, while mobile or fixed lines can use 400. Also, 400 numbers include local charges, whereas 800 numbers are free to call. 400 and 800 toll-free numbers in China are 10-digit numbers starting with 400 & 800. Did you know that there’s no “pre-” before 800? A China toll-free number would look like this 400-XXX-XXXX or 800-XXX-XXX.
