The Perform Lifeline of Hope (PLOH) project is an international, multidisciplinary initiative to assist the local communities in refugee and displaced people’s camps to prevent disease, respond to emergencies, and promote well-being. The initiative began with the establishment of the Plooh International School at a refugee and displaced people’s camp in Lesotho. Following its successful launch in 2020, PLOH has expanded into an international collaboration, with teachers in more than fifty countries taking on this important humanitarian project.

PLOH was developed by the Norwegian Refugee Council, together with the UNHCR, and UNAIDS in order to address urgent health needs. There are three major objectives of the project: to: (a) develop methods of screening and diagnosing essential diseases; (b) facilitate health care for refugees and displaced people; and (c) support the development of health services for refugees and displaced people.

Refugees and displaced people’s camps are frequently characterized by limited or no medical facilities. In such situations, physical health may be an area of concern since the majority of refugees and displaced people are malnourished. To meet this challenge, PLOH has established a network of teachers, doctors, and community members who will participate in health services in refugee and displaced people’s camps.

This school aims to engage the local community members and work with them to organize and implement health programs. The local residents are encouraged to provide basic health services to refugees and displaced people’s camps. Community members are also encouraged to share their experiences, expertise, and training in the provision of basic health services to their communities. Such individuals include physicians, teachers, social workers, nurses, and community leaders.

In addition to the basic health care available in the refugee and displaced people’s camps, PLOH also focuses on providing education for refugee and displaced people’s children. As many children have had little or no formal education, this essential component of the project is one of the most important benefits that the project can provide. With a focus on positive parenting, activities such as story time, literacy sessions, and musical instruments are among the first steps in making the integration of refugee and displaced children into the local communities possible.

With an increase in cases of post-traumatic stress disorder, mental illness, and depression, PLOH has created the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Support Program. This program provides specialized counseling for children affected by war and related events.

PLOH is focused on providing refugees and displaced people’s children with the skills they need to integrate into their communities. This includes skills such as how to read, write, and talk in their new languages. They also receive educational and career-related services and support to help them become ready for the future.

Along with PLOH, Norway is working with the governments of Lesotho, Swaziland, South Africa, and Burundi to set up refugee and displaced people’s camps where they will begin their new lives. The aim of the Perform Lifeline of Hope (PLOH) is to provide basic health services, offer education to refugee and displaced children, and create opportunities for those children who have suffered trauma, or who are directly affected by war and related events. These four pillars of the PLOH project will work together to create safe and healthy communities for the refugee and displaced people living in the host countries.
